It’s satisfying, protein-packed, and easy to customize with your favorite vegetables or spice level.
300 g lean beef mince (5% fat)
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
20 ml dark soy sauce
15 ml sriracha
10 g tomato purée
20 g honey
250 g cooked rice
Optional Toppings
Sliced spring onions
Sesame seeds
Prepare the Vegetables
Chop the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Set aside.
Sauté the Vegetables
Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook for 1–2 minutes until slightly softened. Add the garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Cook the Beef
Add the beef mince to the pan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the meat is browned and most of the liquid has evaporated.
Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix the dark soy sauce, sriracha, tomato purée, honey, and a small splash of water.
Add the Sauce
Pour the sauce into the pan and cook for 1–2 minutes until it thickens and coats the beef evenly.
Combine with Rice
Add the cooked rice and stir well until everything is evenly mixed and heated through.
Serve
Garnish with spring onions and sesame seeds if desired, then serve hot.
Get the beef crispy: Let the beef cook undisturbed for short moments so it browns properly.
Adjust the heat: Reduce or increase the sriracha to suit your spice preference.
Use day-old rice: Slightly dry rice gives the best texture and prevents sogginess.
Add more vegetables: Peas, carrots, zucchini, or green beans work very well in this dish.
