These Crispy Baked Chicken Tenders are a healthier homemade alternative to deep-fried chicken, without sacrificing flavor or crunch. Juicy chicken strips are coated in a seasoned breadcrumb mixture and baked until golden and crispy. They’re perfect for quick weeknight dinners, meal prep, or a fun family meal that both kids and adults will love.
1 lb chicken breasts or chicken tenders, cut into strips
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Olive oil spray
If using chicken breasts, cut them into strips about 1 inch wide. If using chicken tenders, this step can be skipped.
In one bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
In a second bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese (if using), garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Lightly season the chicken strips with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Dip each chicken strip into the beaten egg, letting the excess drip off.
Coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the crumbs stick.
For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for a double coating.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
For best results, place a wire rack on top to allow air circulation.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Arrange the chicken tenders on the baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
Lightly spray with olive oil.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Let the tenders rest for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces such as honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or ranch.
Use panko breadcrumbs for maximum crunch.
Wire rack method: Helps crisp both sides evenly without flipping too much.
Don’t overcrowd the pan: Space ensures even browning.
Meal prep friendly: Reheat in the oven or air fryer to keep them crispy.
Flavor boost: Add cayenne pepper or smoked paprika for extra kick.
