Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 1/8 teaspoons active dry yeast

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup warm water (divided)

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar

  • 1 1/22 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour

Topping

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salted butter, melted

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 1/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast
In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine 1/2 cup warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let rest for 5 minutes until foamy.

  • Mix the dough
Add remaining 1/4 cup warm water, olive oil, salt, and vinegar. Begin mixing on medium-low speed. Gradually add flour and knead for several minutes until dough is smooth and elastic. It should be slightly sticky but not cling to your fingertip.

  • Let rise
Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  • Preheat oven
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a pizza stone or upside-down baking sheet inside to heat.

  • Shape the dough
Punch dough down gently. Place parchment paper on the counter and spread dough into a rectangle about 1/3-inch thick.

  • Add topping
Mix melted butter and garlic. Spread evenly over dough. Sprinkle with Parmesan and mozzarella.

  • Bake
Transfer parchment and dough onto the hot stone or baking sheet. Bake 8–12 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

  • Serve
Slice into breadsticks and serve warm with marinara, ranch, or garlic butter.

Notes

  • Use warm (not hot) water to avoid killing the yeast.

  • For extra crisp edges, brush a little more butter on after baking.

  • Add Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.

  • Let cheese fully melt and bubble before removing from oven.
