Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken – The Ultimate Guide to a Quick, Flavor-Packed Dinner

This Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken is an easy, flavorful dinner that’s ready in under 15 minutes of cooking time. Juicy, tender chicken pieces are coated in a sticky, savory-sweet teriyaki sauce and cooked to perfection in the air fryer. It’s a great low-carb, gluten-free option that’s perfect for busy weeknights and meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 11.25 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or chicken breast

  • ⅔ cup teriyaki sauce (homemade or store-bought)

  • Chopped scallions, optional (for garnish)

  • Sesame seeds, optional (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Cut it into 1–1½ inch cubes and place it in a medium bowl.

  2. Marinate
Pour the teriyaki sauce over the chicken and toss until evenly coated. Cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 hour.
Tip: If marinating longer than 30 minutes, refrigerate the chicken.

  3. Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C). Lightly spray the basket with non-aerosol cooking spray.

  4. Cook
Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 12–15 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  5. Serve
Remove the chicken from the air fryer and serve immediately. Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Chicken thighs are juicier, while chicken breast cooks slightly faster—check breasts around 8–10 minutes.

  • Avoid overcrowding the basket so the chicken cooks evenly.

  • For extra sticky sauce, brush on a little more teriyaki sauce during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

  • Pair with steamed rice, cauliflower rice, or sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
