Air Fryer Lava Cake: The Ultimate Guide to a Rich, Gooey Chocolate Dessert at Home

Air Fryer Lava Cake is a rich, indulgent dessert with a warm, gooey chocolate center and soft, cake-like edges. Made in the air fryer, this dessert is quick, elegant, and perfect for satisfying intense chocolate cravings—no oven required. The batter stays light and airy while delivering deep chocolate flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 oz chocolate, chopped

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 large egg white

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare ramekins
Lightly spray two 6-ounce ramekins with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

  2. Melt chocolate & butter
Place chocolate and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 60–90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and smooth.

  3. Mix eggs & sugar
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, egg white, and sugar until frothy and slightly thickened.

  4. Combine
Slowly pour the egg mixture into the melted chocolate mixture and gently stir until combined.

  5. Add flour
Fold in the flour with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. Fill ramekins
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared ramekins.

  7. Air fry
Place ramekins in the air fryer basket. Cook at 370°F (188°C) for 8–10 minutes, watching closely to avoid overcooking.
The tops should puff slightly with set edges but a soft center.

  8. Cool & unmold
Let cool for 1 minute. Carefully remove ramekins using a thick towel. Run a knife around the edges, then gently invert onto plates.

  9. Serve
Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not overcook—8 minutes gives a gooey center; 10 minutes is more set.

  • Use good-quality chocolate for the best flavor.

  • Let the batter rest for 2–3 minutes before cooking for a smoother texture.

  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
