Air Fryer Baked Potato – The Ultimate Guide to Crispy Skins and Fluffy Centers

This Air Fryer Baked Potato recipe gives you super crispy skins with a fluffy, creamy center—much faster than using the oven. With just a little oil, salt, and pepper, these potatoes are the perfect side dish and ready for all your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 russet potatoes (about 300 g each)

  • 1½ tablespoons oil

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) if your model requires preheating.

  • Prepare the potatoes
Wash and dry the potatoes thoroughly.

  • Season
Rub each potato all over with oil. Season generously with salt and pepper. Pierce each potato once in the center with a fork.

  • Air fry
Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 40 minutes, turning once halfway if desired.

    • Smaller potatoes may need less time

    • Larger potatoes may need a little longer

  • Check doneness
Insert a knife into the center of a potato. If it slides in and out easily, they’re done. If not, cook for another 5–10 minutes.

  • Serve
Slice open, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Russet potatoes work best because of their fluffy interior.

  • For extra crispy skin, sprinkle a little extra salt after oiling.

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket—air circulation is key.

  • Delicious toppings include butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon, or chili.
