With simple pantry ingredients and no long rising time, these rolls are ideal for busy weeknights, holiday dinners, or anytime you need warm, fresh bread in a hurry. Light, tender, and brushed with butter, they’re a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
1¼ cups warm water
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
⅓ cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
3¾ cups all-purpose flour
Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it. Set aside.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 2–5 minutes, until foamy.
Add the oil, salt, egg, and flour (one cup at a time).
Mix until combined, then allow the mixer to knead the dough for about 4 minutes. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
Lightly spray your hands with baking spray or oil. Divide the dough into 15 equal balls and place them evenly in the prepared pan.
Cover the pan with a clean kitchen towel.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and place the pan on top of the oven while it preheats. Let the dough rise during this time.
Bake for 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and brush the rolls generously with melted butter. Serve warm and enjoy.
Don’t add too much flour: A soft, slightly sticky dough makes lighter rolls.
Warm water matters: Water should be warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
Hands-on shaping: Oiled hands make shaping easy without adding extra flour.
Extra flavor: Brush with garlic butter or sprinkle with flaky salt after baking.
